CRAFTED BOWLS

DIGITAL HANDCRAFTING | 2017

DSC_3977_bearbeitet20.jpg
DSC_3977_bearbeitet9.jpg

this series of digitally designed and 3D printed bowls are made from a heat-reacive bio-polymer. by pouring hot water on the pieces, the printed structures become malleable. this way the flat printed discs are morphed into semispherical bowls /

in a second step, the printing process is rather used to create basic spider-like elements, that serve as circular weaving loom. after thermoforming and shaping the 3D printed looms into spheric bowls, natural bast fibres or transparent nylon monofils are interwoven. the series is completed with a contrasting leather bowl that was formed by using hot water /

COVID19 MUTATIONS

PET BOTTLE OBJECTS | 2020

the delicate structures can be read as viral bodies. their ephemeral appearance made of light, transparent material refer to the fraility and instability of life during COVID19. inspired by the growing amount of emptied water PET bottles during the total lockdown in 03|2019 in barcelona, the bottles were used to design with playful creativity /

after separating the bottles in their basic elements - bottle neck, round spheres, cylindrical shapes and bumpy bottom - the pieces have been re-assembled into virus-like spheres. the greenish color of the bottles enhances the clinical laboratory atmosphere that the objects evoke /

CYLINDERS

STACKABLE PLANT POT SERIES | 2021

this series is based on casting. liquidified ceramics are poured into selfmade plaster mouldings. while the main volume is a simple pure geometric shape, the manufacturing process causes little irregularities at the edges and in the surfaces that animates and contrasts with the clear shape design. the pots come in four different diameters, each available in three different heights. being stackable allows to create tower-like structures to accomodate hanging plants as well /

CORONA SERIES

ANALOGUE 3D-PRINTED CLAY | 2020

the filigran structures symbolize the delicacy of health and life in this very special time. the irregularities and imperfections in the surfaces, the variation of thickness and the rather heterogen look of the printed pots refer to the broken "perfect world" and to the worried minds and souls /

clayPrinting.jpg
DSC_5249_bearbeitet_edited.jpg

not only are the printed clay pots called Corona Series because they remember crowns (lat. corona), but because their creation happend to the time of the corona pandemic. on the very last day before the total lockdown in 03|2019 in Barcelona, 25kg clay were bought to creatively survive the shutdown /

clay is a very hands-on and basic material, it stands for being grounded and is usually being processed by hand. the manual extrusion can be seen as an anti-digital and very offline process - the hand-made 3D printing is a counterposition to the today's "always online world" and the digitally perfectionized 3D printing. the process is based on simple daily life's items you have at home: a simple plastic bag instead of a clay 3D printer - no special machine nor software. this hand-made and extruded process is very time-intense. the necessary time was set free due to the slowed-down daily rhythm caused by the total lockdown /

PORCELAIN EXPERIMENTS | 2018

working with porcelain allows to reflect and copy super fine micro textures like pores and riffles. this creative exploration is based on dipping different materials and assembled structures into liquid porcelain. after firing, only the hard porcelain shells remain, the prototype structures are burnt. asthetically they remind delicate and threatened corals and other sensible reef inhabitants of fragile marine eco systems such as sponges /

RAW BURNISHED

ARCHAIC POTTERY | 2018

in this explorative ceramic project I investigated the technique of capsule firing. several natural fibres such as hay are wrapped closely around the clay objects. the packed vases are put into a clay capsule which is sealed afterwards. this ensures that the minerals and metals contained in the hay fibres colorize beautifully the ceramics. the very random process creates subtle color fadings, white frostings and crystalline structures on the surfaces - this results in a very raw and archaic look & feel /
